Bacon

Play written by Pip Utton and Jeremy Towler
Directed by Geoff Bullen
Performed by Pip Utton

A one-man show based on a day in the complex and destructive life of arguably the greatest British painter since Turner. A life fuelled by drunkenness, gambling and a liking for a bit of rough?

Described by critics as the greatest British painter since Turner and by Margaret Thatcher as 'that dreadful man who paints those horrible pictures', Francis Bacon remains one of the most challenging and controversial artists of all time. Bacons paintings have the power to horrify, excite, disgust, revolt and haunt. It is impossible not to react to his work.

It was probably not only the paintings that so distressed Mrs Thatcher but the man himself. Francis Bacon could spend his mornings painting, his afternoons and evenings drinking champagne and eating, and his nights roaming around Soho dressed in fishnet stockings and a long leather coat looking for 'rough trade'. His lifestyle full of alcohol, gambling and homosexual promiscuity has created an iconic enigma.

Pip Utton is one of the countrys leading solo performers with a growing international reputation. Probably best known for his phenomenally successful portrayal of Hitler in his play Adolf, Pip has toured India, New Zealand, Australia, The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Hong Kong, Singapore, Estonia, Eire and the UK receiving rave reviews and awards for both his performances and his writing. He now adds Francis Bacon to his stunning performances.Previous plays include Adolf, Resolution, Only The Lonely and Son of The Father.

Admission Free
Caf? Gallery open 10am-5pm Mon-Sat

The Norwich Arts Centre is the site of the first solo UK exhibition for the Canadian Artist Mary-Colleen Rabb.

The exhibition, entitled ?The Little White Art Show?, will run from January 9th to February 15th and is an ambitious scale show that attempts to reveal the breadth and scope of her body of work. On view are over twenty pieces, and in addition to her trademark photographs of small white figures in strange landscapes, one of her latest sculptures will also be exhibited. Her new work plays between the boundaries of photography and sculpture and includes exclusive work on display only for the duration of this exhibition.

Mary-Colleen can most commonly been referred to as a Pop Artist and easily identifies with the movement of the early 1960s, with her work staying closely related to personal experience and human values. She uses visually stunning colours and textures in her photographs and sculptures, incorporating ready-made and available objects in her pieces that reflect her influences from advertising, film, pop culture and the media.
